Thanksgiving 2013....

We spent the Sunday before Thanksgiving at Grandma Joyce's for dinner while Lori and James were home. It was good to be able to celebrate with them.  We had a good time with all the fun old toys Grandma found in the attic.  On Thanksgiving,  I hosted Joyce, Gary and Joe for turkey and all the fixings.  We even relaxed in the basement and watched the movie "Ëlf" which the kids thought was hilarious!

And the Stockings were Hung....

As tradition at our house has become, we got out the Christmas decorations the weekend before Thanksgiving.  The kids were very excited this year!  After getting the tree up, I really didn't do much decorating.  The kids, especially Ava, hung nearly every ornament.  I only had to decorate the top third of the tree.  They did a great job!  Ava even hung in there to do the basement tree nearly all by herself.  They ended the night cuddling and watching a movie together.  You'd never guess they fight would you?

Owen's 3 Year Old Report.....

3 Year Old Stats:
Height:  40.5 inches
Weight: 39 lbs
Owen is our energetic, fun loving ham of a 3 year old.  There truly is never a dull moment when he is around!
Interests: He loves anything to do with wheels including playing with cars, trucks, tractors, and especially those with trailers.  He loves to watch any moving vehicles, especially trains and construction equipment.  Daddy's shop is always a source of interest and he could spend hours out there just asking Daddy about the trencher, skid loader, or bucket truck.  Owen's speech finally took off in the spring and now he talks all the time.  We continue to be amazed with his observations and quick wit.  He adores his sister and has really missed her this fall when she was off to school.  He has become my little helper at home.  He will often ask me if he can help me with something and will unload the dishwasher and loves to help cook.   If a pan or bowl comes out of the cupboard, he comes running from across the house to push up a barstool so he can see.  He has attempted making his bed a few times and  is getting better.  He can undress himself and go potty all by himself, but is still struggling with getting himself dressed again which frustrates him quite easily.
Development:  He learned to count to 13-15 depending on the day and learned his alphabet (so we could understand all the letters) this summer.  We are working on shapes and colors still.  Some days he seems to know everything I ask and others he will say he forgot or walk away.  I guess this is a boy thing!
Entertainment:  He has become my little shopping assistant and is now able to identify Sam's, Target and the mall from the parking lot.  He knows where we are and is very willing to go in.  He does always ask me if I have the stroller along, especially if we are going to the mall.  He really likes riding in it, so I'm good with that for now.  He is a little different than shopping with Ava at this age as he will pause in the middle of nowhere to watch a delivery truck, pick up or any other vehicle that catches his eye.  You also can't bribe him with ice cream to do anything like I always could with Ava!  He is quite patient for a 3 year old and very entertaining to have along.  We usually do a big grocery run every other week, and he often asks me after Ava goes to school if we are going to Sioux Falls that day.  He seems to enjoy the outings and I enjoy my little buddy.
Eating:  Owen is a great eater.  He likes pretty much everything except squash.  He does seem to be very hungry in the mornings and can't get enough to eat in those morning hours.  Owen really has no interest in sweets.  He doesn't like ice cream, very little chocolate, and not much for candy.  A great treat for him is raisins, one of his favorite foods.  He loves peanuts and all fruits, expecially bananas and pineapple.  He also loves sandwiches!
As I say every year, I wish I could bottle him up and keep him this age for forever!

I'm not sure why I insist on making the birthday cakes each year. It ends up being quite a bit of time invested, but I do enjoy it.  I especially enjoyed Owen's pinterest inspired train, but both were fun to decorate.  I just love their excited faces when they see them for the first time.  I do need to give Brad plenty of credit for this birthday party.  Although he doesn't do much with desserts for the party, he did smoke beef and pork for sandwiches which was a big hit.  Another birthday party in the books!  Fun day!

We celebrated another birthday party together for the kids this year.  We waited until a little later this year so Ava wouldn't feel like we were sick of birthdays by the time her birthday came around.  The kids were quite excited for their party.  Both grandparents, Shelly & Jason & kids, and Hannah & Luke & Tristan came to help celebrate.
