Pregnancy Update at 17 1/2 Weeks...
We went to see a different perinatologist today along with my regular OB, Dr. Salama. Much to our surprise, this perinatologist, Dr. Palmquist, seemed much more optimistic than Dr. Wahl that we had seen previously. Although my subchorionic hematoma (SCH) is still measuring the same size as it was two weeks ago, Dr. Palmquist said the location of it was the most ideal if you are going to have a SCH. It is not behind the placenta like they usually are, so she said that greatly reduces the risks involved with preterm labor and premature rupture of membranes. There is still risk, but she said it looks to be stable at the moment. While I can't start training for a marathon quite yet (I was really hoping :), she said I can sit in the chair, and don't always need to lay completely flat which was great news. Dr. Salama also seemed more optimistic with this report from Dr. Palmquist, so overall we are feeling good about things. We go back for another ultrasound in 3 weeks to check on the progress and do the anatomic survey of the baby.
We want to thank everyone for all the cards, prayers, kind words, and willingness to help. It means so much to know that so many people care. A special thanks to those who have brought us meals. This has been a tremendous help and such a stress reliever for all of us, not to mention we've had some great food! Brad may not want me to return to the kitchen! Thank you so much!
We continue to treasure each moment of this pregnancy. Almost every day, I can feel the baby move now which is exciting. It is amazing how much the baby grows and develops from one appointment to the next. We are very much enjoying this little miracle. We have so many blessings and so much to be thankful for. Ava continues to be very excited for a new sibling. In fact, she had to point out at the doctor today everyone who was pregnant saying, "there's a baby in her tummy". Luckily, I don't think she said it to anyone who wasn't actually pregnant. She also had to point out all the babies and tell us she wanted to "say hi". It was a lot of waiting for her today, but she did find ways to entertain herself!
