21 Weeks and Some Change....

21 weeks, 4 days
I am 21 weeks this week, so we have reached the halfway point. I have to admit, it feels like I have been pregnant for forever already. I don't know if it is the frequent doctor appointments or the lack of work to keep me busy, but it feels like I should be further along. I had another doctor visit this week. The SCH is a little smaller, although it doesn't seem that the perinatologist is all that concerned with it going away anymore. She said the SCH would not interfere with the baby's growth so it really didn't matter if it stayed there the whole pregnancy. It looks less and less threatening on ultrasound with each visit as the baby is growing larger. The comparison between the two really makes the SCH seem small now. Dr. Wahl thinks that is it is a very positive sign that things have stabilized and I'm not having any new symptoms. She still says regardless of what happens with the size of the SCH, I'm at increased risk of premature rupture of membranes due to this condition. She said with her experience, its about a 1 in 3 chance of this risk. She instructed me to keep doing what I've been doing (which isn't very much activity at all) because it seems to be working. She has cut me loose from seeing her until 28 weeks. I am still seeing my regular OB, Dr. Salama every 2 weeks for the time being. Overall, the appointment was very positive. The baby is growing right on target and looks good by all accounts on ultrasound. And for those of you who don't know, we are having a boy!

A New Swingset...

Day 2: About 8 hours into building Ava really loved the "clubhouse" part & "helping" daddy
Our neighbor Haley and Ava
All the neighbors were happy it was finished!
After some near begging on my part, I finally talked Brad into getting a swingset. It wasn't the purchase that he was dreading, but rather the putting it together that he knew would be a time consuming process. Just a few short days after purchase, he decided to attack the project. Foolishly, we started Day 1 in the afternoon thinking we would have it complete by sundown. Well, we were wrong! There were so many boards and 50 different kinds of hardware. We were amazed! We put in approximately 6 hours together on Day 1 with barely a square erected at the bottom of the clubhouse. Darkness and rainfall sent us to bed. On Day 2, Brad was flying solo (much better off in my opinion) and really made progress. After a full 9 hour day and Ava's great anticipation, it was done. The neighbors came over and helped Ava break it in. To say she loves it would be an understatement. She asks to play on the slide any chance she gets. It didn't take her long to master the ladder or the rock wall, so she is able to get into the clubhouse without a problem. We are so glad we got it now because Ava is at the perfect age to enjoy it.

Memorial Day 2010...

Palisades State Park
Ava's new best friend, cousin Tavin Roth (3 years)
Ava loved to have the kitties chase her at Grandma Sieve's

Grandma Joyce & Ava
We had a rather busy Memorial Day weekend although not intentional. Saturday we decided to head to Palisades State Park for a nice family picnic. Ava loved the "big water" as she calls it and had fun hiking around with Brad while I relaxed by the river. The Sieve side of the family got together including Aunt Carol and Bill, Brittany, Aunt Joann, Aunt Barb, and her daughters Shannon, Kelly, and Katie. Shannon has a little boy that is six months older than Ava named Tavin. It took Ava a bit to warm up to him, but soon they were walking around arm in arm, nearly inseparable. They were precious to watch! We even stopped out for a brief visit to the Sieve farm where Ava enjoyed the kitties, cows, and Max, the dog. We really enjoyed all the visiting with family. This was by far the most outings I've had in a long time and I was exhausted even though I really didn't do anything but ride in the car and sit somewhere. It was so nice to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Picnic Fun & the Pool Comes Out...

One excited girl to go the park for a picnic
Daddy & Ava
Addie, 3 1/2, Sam 5, Ava 2 1/2
With the wonderful weather, we have spent lot of time outside lately. I have a nice lounge chair to relax in that my mom got for me which is very comfortable. We have gone to the park a few times for picnics which Ava dearly loves. Shelly, Sam, and Addie came to stay a night to start off our Memorial Day weekend. Ava was excited to have playmates to ride bike with her and swim in the pool. It was great having Shelly here to cook meals and help out, although the time went fast.

18 Weeks Pregnant....

Not to be left out, Ava couldn't pass up taking pictures like Mommy. She had to do her poses and flash her best smile as well! 18 weeks and counting!

Ava is 2 1/2 Years Old...

It's so hard to believe Ava is 2 1/2 years old already. She is growing up and becoming quite the little lady. As I've been able to do less for her with being on bed rest, she has learned to become more independent. There are many things she can do for herself if she wants to including dressing herself, getting her own beverages from the fridge, and using the bathroom. She is also getting pretty good at following directions.
Sleep: Ava is typically sleeping from 8:30 pm to 7:00 am with a two to three hour nap in the afternoons. She is rising earlier these days which has been an adjustment.
Food/Eating: She continues to be a very good eater. She can be a little fussy about her veggies, but will still eat most of them. She loves sandwiches of any kind, chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers, and several fruits. Of course, her true love is cookies or any sort of baked item. She will do almost anything to get her hands on something like this!
Communication: Ava seems to progressing very well in the speech category. She comes up with new phrases that never cease to amaze us. She is into referencing time right now. She often says "I go to the park later" or "I can ride my tricycle after nap". She has become quite a kidder. She will sometimes make up words and see if she can get one of us to repeat the strange word, and then she will laugh hysterically!
Favorite Pass Times: Ava's favorite things to do right now involve being outside. She loves to ride tricycle, play in the baby pool, and go to the park. She still loves to have books read to her and look at books herself. Her favorite toys are dolls and her little people house. I love to sit back and listen to her playing and all the things she is pretending. It can be quite a comical conversation! She also loves to watch "Baby Story" on tv. She almost likes it better than Mickey Mouse, but it's close!
Being unable to do all the fun mom stuff has been a little difficult for me. I miss doing things just the two of us like shopping and hitting the park, but Ava seems to be adjusting very well. We do more things as a family which has been good and Daddy can handle all the lifting and physical activity. We have lots of visitors and Ava still gets to do many fun things. She just knows now that it isn't ever just her and I for the day if Brad goes to work and always asks who is coming over. It's amazing how quickly children catch on to things!

Pregnancy Update at 17 1/2 Weeks...

We went to see a different perinatologist today along with my regular OB, Dr. Salama. Much to our surprise, this perinatologist, Dr. Palmquist, seemed much more optimistic than Dr. Wahl that we had seen previously. Although my subchorionic hematoma (SCH) is still measuring the same size as it was two weeks ago, Dr. Palmquist said the location of it was the most ideal if you are going to have a SCH. It is not behind the placenta like they usually are, so she said that greatly reduces the risks involved with preterm labor and premature rupture of membranes. There is still risk, but she said it looks to be stable at the moment. While I can't start training for a marathon quite yet (I was really hoping :), she said I can sit in the chair, and don't always need to lay completely flat which was great news. Dr. Salama also seemed more optimistic with this report from Dr. Palmquist, so overall we are feeling good about things. We go back for another ultrasound in 3 weeks to check on the progress and do the anatomic survey of the baby. We want to thank everyone for all the cards, prayers, kind words, and willingness to help. It means so much to know that so many people care. A special thanks to those who have brought us meals. This has been a tremendous help and such a stress reliever for all of us, not to mention we've had some great food! Brad may not want me to return to the kitchen! Thank you so much! We continue to treasure each moment of this pregnancy. Almost every day, I can feel the baby move now which is exciting. It is amazing how much the baby grows and develops from one appointment to the next. We are very much enjoying this little miracle. We have so many blessings and so much to be thankful for. Ava continues to be very excited for a new sibling. In fact, she had to point out at the doctor today everyone who was pregnant saying, "there's a baby in her tummy". Luckily, I don't think she said it to anyone who wasn't actually pregnant. She also had to point out all the babies and tell us she wanted to "say hi". It was a lot of waiting for her today, but she did find ways to entertain herself!
