Father's Day Flooding...

View looking towards Luverne from our driveway

Looking just a little northwest from our house
The is the acerage just north of us about a half mile.

The road going into Luverne from our house- this is before the crest so it got higher.
 A closer look

The acerage just south of the big park.  All the roads were closed!  Couldn't get through to Luverne anywhere!

That's the baseball fields located right by the river.

Looking from Casey's towards the south
This is the road we found to get into Luverne- we drove over it and 20 minutes later came back and drove through water.  About an hour later, the road was closed and stayed closed for a long time!

Looking at the crest here.
Acerage just north of us again- propane tank went floating.

I90 looking east from the Luverne overpass.  The interstate did close when the river crested all the way to the state line.

Father's Day did not bring good weather to Luverne.  After being rainy the whole month and the ground was plenty saturated, we managed to get 5" of rain overnight in a very short time.  The flooding was unbelievable.  On Monday, waters had receded some and then Monday night we received another 5" of rain.  Tuesday it seemed waters were even higher.  The devastation was so sad.  So much water in people's basements and so much damage to property.  The big park by our house had several feet of water.  Much of the playground equipment you couldn't even see.  Water reached the top of slides.  The baseball fields were destroyed.  The bike path out to Blue Mound State Park had a huge chunk washed out.  The dam at Blue Mound gave way, increasing the water rushing down the Rock River.  There is no longer swimming at the state park as all the water in the reservoir is gone.  There is so many roads that were washed out, I don't think the road crews know where to start.  We were so thankful- not a single drop of water in our sump pit despite the lake just across the road.  It literally smelled like a lake in our yard for at least a week.  What a summer!
